There has already been a lot of rumour in recent weeks, as numerous well-known exhibitors have already announced behind the scenes that they will not be taking part in Kind + Jugend. And now it is decided. The exhibition management of Kind + Jugend today announced that it will cancel the world’s most important industry event in the baby and basic equipment sector in 2020.

A press release from the House says:

“Despite an excellent registration status for Kind + Jugend in spring 2020, the current Covid 19 developments and the economic situation were increasingly reflected in the location of the fair. In recent weeks, more and more exhibitors have been questioning their participation in Kind + Jugend 2020.

With the detailed package of measures #B-SAFE4business for corona-compliant implementation, Koelnmesse, in coordination with the authorities, had laid the foundation for holding trade fairs under corona conditions.

However, as the crisis and the resulting difficult economic situation continued, the uncertainty of exhibitors and trade visitors increased. The latest news about new cases of infection in Germany also played a role.

In addition, the travel situation currently remains uncertain, especially on an intercontinental level. For this reason, a large majority of exhibitors and visitors have decided in recent weeks not to attend Kind + Jugend.

Koelnmesse has therefore reassessed the overall situation and decided to meet the cancellations and requests of a large number of exhibitors and trade visitors from the industry and not to hold Kind + Jugend 2020. The next Kind + Jugend 2021 will therefore take place from September, 16th to 19th 2021.

Leading trade fairs such as Kind + Jugend in particular require a certain completeness on the exhibitor and visitor side. Internationality at European and global level plays a major role for the trade fair. Kind + Jugend wants to remain the most important trade and innovation platform for the sector in the future and is therefore continuing to work intensively on concepts and formats in order to successfully bring exhibitors and visitors together again in Cologne.

For the international baby and toddler outfitting industry, whose central business and networking platform is Kind + Jugend, the suspension of the 2020 deadline enables an important phase of repositioning and reorientation to give the market fresh impetus again in autumn 2021 with new energy, new marketing strategies and also with new products. Kind + Jugend itself has committed itself to accompany this process and, at the same time, will make intensive use of the months leading up to the next fair to reflect the needs of the industry precisely in the trade fair and event format”.
